Afhandlingen undersøger, hvordan det filosofiske ideal kosmopolitisme – idéen om, at mennesker tilhører et globalt fællesskab – hænger sammen med Bildung (dannelse, dvs. personlig og kulturel dannelse). Fokus er på den danske folkeskole, og gennem filosofisk analyse vises, hvordan disse idéer kan præge undervisning og læring. Frem for at diskutere politiske beslutningsprocesser ser afhandlingen på kosmopolitisme som ideal og Bildung/dannelse som begreb med udgangspunkt i udvalgte tænkere: stoikerne, Immanuel Kant og Wilhelm von Humboldt, der giver et praksisorienteret blik på individet. Afsnittet om Bildung bygger på John Deweys syn på erfaring og socialt samspil i undervisning. Til slut overvejes, hvordan kosmopolitisme kan integreres i skolens hverdag. This thesis examines how the philosophical ideal of cosmopolitanism—the idea that people belong to a global community—relates to Bildung, understood as personal and cultural formation. It focuses on Danish primary education and uses philosophical analysis to show how these ideas can inform teaching and learning. Rather than discussing policy-making, the thesis explores cosmopolitanism as an ideal and Bildung as a concept through selected thinkers: Stoic philosophy, Immanuel Kant’s Enlightenment views, and Wilhelm von Humboldt’s practice-oriented perspective on the individual. The section on Bildung draws on John Dewey’s thinking about experience and social life in education. Finally, the thesis considers how cosmopolitanism could be integrated into classroom and school culture. The central research question is: How can cosmopolitanism contribute to the educational ideal in primary schools?
