Abstract

Abstract. This master's project investigates how an approach inspired by the method Design Based Research (DBR) can contribute with potential solutions to a complex situation linked to a documentation practice, which a significant part of the employees in a socialcare-center experience as problematic. Reason. The primary reason for the project was to investigate whether the DBR method can contribute to educational staff experiencing their documentation practice becoming more manageable. So the basis for a higher data quality through more accurate and reliable data becomes stronger. Method. Design Based Research inspired approach is chosen as the method, along with pragmatism as the underlying science theory. A survey was carried out, the results of which have, among other things, been processed in CHATGPT. These results have formed the basis of a design workshop. This workshop has led to several solution ideas and a prototype has been designed that was designed. These solutions, together with reflections and quotes from the participants, have led to analyses, design proposals and a conclusion for the project. Results. The project shows that a DBR-inspired approach as a methodological framework can contribute to solving, or coming up with partial solutions to minimize, problematic frustrations around a complex problem. The project also shows that DBR provides the opportunity not only for a transformation to take place in an artifact, DBR also provides the opportunity for individuals who become involved to experience a transformation that can contribute to a deeper understanding of the current problem. In addition, DBR creates the framework for design principles to be developed to accommodate different contexts. Limitations and perspectives. The project was carried out over a relatively short period of time, of around 2 months, and together with a small group of educational employees. The project developed the first version of a prototype and new knowledge was created. But if problem as a hole with the complexity of the problem field is to be handled, it will require different efforts and solutions at several different organizational levels. Despite this, the project will be able to act as inspiration for employees who want to design concrete solutions to problems in the organization, they are part of.
