Abstract

Abstract Due to changing working hours, within the specialized social area, organizational staff meetings are a core element in the development of professional quality and a center in the efforts to create coherence in the staff group and a coherent approach towards the vulnerable young people that we work with. The central question for the analysis is: How does the staff meeting function as a compensatory and cohesion-creating body in a place of residence for vulnerable children and young people - and what means does the meeting use to promote and lead social integration in the staff group? Through interviews with three employees at a place of residence for vulnerable young people, a situational analysis of the "staff meeting" is prepared. In my interviews, I will try to get closer to an understanding of the staff meeting as a phenomenon that consists of a ritual framework that is fundamentally socio-material. Based on the "situation analysis", the study will try to investigate and map which mechanisms are at play in the staff meeting and how it works in an integrative way in relation to the group. In the final part of the project, I discuss the legitimacy of the staff meeting as a special educational tool in relation to other types of organizational tools that exist and in relation to which types of problems the staff meeting is suitable for solving. Through the analysis, a picture emerges of the staff meeting as a mechanism which i.a. works by framing and reinforcing already existing dynamics in the group. There are many indications that the staff meeting is not suitable for solving all types of problems, and that it should therefore be considered whether a meeting is always the right answer to any challenge.
