Specialet undersøger, hvorfor dialogen om seksualitet – særligt rejsningsbesvær – mellem mandlige patienter og sundhedsprofessionelle fortsat er vanskelig i Danmark, trods øget offentlig opmærksomhed. Med en neksusanalytisk tilgang gennem tre faser (engagement, navigation og forandring) udforskes praksisfeltet, hvor patienter, sundhedsprofessionelle og medierede artefakter mødes. Datagrundlaget omfatter etnografi, internetetnografi og semistrukturerede interviews, og materialet analyseres med Laclau og Mouffes diskursteori kombineret med Madsens Kommunikationstrekant. Formålet er at udvikle en diskursiv guide, der placerer virkemidler som humor, metakommunikation og positionering i en tredje diskursiv sfære, som kan mindske et identificeret tre-vejs tabu mellem patient, professionel og selve emnet. Analysen peger på tre hovedfund: (1) manglende viden om seksualitet og dens betydning under sygdom forstærker tabuet; (2) seksuelle problemer berører identitet, og rejsningsbesvær omtales ofte diskret eller gemmes væk på hjemmesider; (3) sundhedsprofessionelle tilbageholder samtalen for at beskytte deres professionelle rolle, når emnet opfattes som privat/intimt. Afslutningsvis drøftes, hvordan humor og klare samtalestrategier kan normalisere emnet og understøtte trygge rammer for dialogen, samt hvordan den foreslåede guide kan bidrage til ændring og danne grundlag for fremtidige indsatser.

This thesis examines why conversations about sexuality—particularly erectile dysfunction—between male patients and healthcare professionals remain difficult in Denmark despite growing public attention. Using a nexus analysis across three phases (engaging, navigating, and changing), it explores the practice nexus where patients, professionals, and mediating artifacts intersect. The study draws on ethnography, virtual ethnography, and semi-structured interviews, and analyzes the material with Laclau and Mouffe’s discourse theory combined with Madsen’s Communication Triangle. The aim is to develop a discursive guide that situates tools such as humor, meta-communication, and positioning within a third discursive sphere to reduce an identified three-way taboo among the patient, the professional, and the topic itself. The analysis identifies three main findings: (1) lack of knowledge about sexuality and its relevance during illness amplifies the taboo; (2) sexual problems are closely tied to identity, and erectile dysfunction is often discreetly downplayed or hidden on websites; (3) healthcare professionals tend to avoid initiating conversations that feel private/intimate to preserve a professional role. The thesis discusses how humor and explicit conversational strategies may help normalize the topic and create safer conditions for dialogue, and how the proposed guide can support change and inform future initiatives.
