Specialet undersøger, hvordan gymnasieelever afkoder en personlig fortællende tale udviklet til en kampagne, og hvordan denne afkodning kan omsættes til mobilisering. Casen er en skolestrejke i februar 2022, hvor omkring 3000 gymnasieelever deltog for at sætte fokus på behovet for seksualundervisning i gymnasiet. Analysen omfatter både talens tilblivelse og dens modtagelse: Kodningen af talen undersøges gennem en procesanalyse inspireret af Marshall Ganz’ organizing-tilgang og storytelling (med etnografiske feltnoter fra et weekendseminar, hvor talen blev udviklet), og modtagelsen undersøges via to fokusgruppeinterviews med gymnasieelever struktureret efter Kim Schrøders fem-dimensionelle receptionsmodel (forståelse, motivation, konstruktionsbevidsthed, holdninger og handlinger). Resultaterne viser, at de frivillige indkodede fælles forståelser og værdier om ungdoms- og festkultur i relation til sex og samtykke, og at eleverne i høj grad afkoder de samme kulturelle forståelser og værdier. Eleverne oplever emnet og talen som motiverende og ønsker, at der kæmpes for seksualundervisning i gymnasiet, men de er tilbageholdende med at binde sig til længerevarende frivilligt engagement og foretrækker konkrete, afgrænsede handlinger. På den baggrund diskuteres forskellige niveauer af engagement, herunder potentialet i digital og social mobilisering, som kan øge rækkevidden men ikke nødvendigvis fællesskabsfølelsen. Specialet konkluderer, at organisationer bør tilbyde fleksible deltagelsesformer med lav forpligtelsestærskel for at mobilisere unge, der gerne vil bidrage uden at indgå i en fast bevægelsesforpligtelse.
This thesis examines how high school students decode a personal, storytelling-based speech developed for a campaign and how that decoding translates into mobilization. The case centers on a school strike in February 2022, in which about 3,000 Danish high school students participated to highlight the need for sex education at the upper-secondary level. The study analyzes both the speech’s encoding and its reception: the encoding is explored through a process analysis inspired by Marshall Ganz’s organizing and storytelling (supported by ethnographic field notes from a weekend seminar where the speech was developed), and the reception is examined through two focus group interviews with students, structured by Kim Schrøder’s five-dimensional model (understanding, motivation, construction awareness, views, and actions). Findings indicate that volunteers encoded shared understandings and values about youth and party culture in relation to sex and consent, and students largely decoded the same cultural meanings and values. Students found the topic and the speech motivating and support efforts to secure sex education in high schools, yet they hesitate to commit to long-term volunteering and prefer specific, bounded actions. The thesis discusses tiers of engagement, including the potential of digital and social media to broaden reach, albeit with a weaker sense of community. It concludes that organizations should offer flexible, low-commitment avenues for participation to mobilize young people who want to contribute without joining a movement in a sustained capacity.
