Abstract
Dette speciale undersøger, hvordan enlige forsørgere på kontanthjælp oplever at deltage i sociale relationer i forbindelse med deres børns sociale liv. Med en hermeneutisk (fortolkende) tilgang fokuserer studiet på forældrenes egne forståelser af sig selv i sociale interaktioner, præget af deres økonomiske situation. For at besvare problemformuleringen blev der gennemført fire kvalitative, semistrukturerede individuelle interviews baseret på en interviewguide, suppleret af et litteraturstudie. Resultaterne viser, at deltagerne ofte føler skam og forlegenhed over deres situation—et tema, der overraskede under forskningsprocessen. De oplever følelsesmæssige udfordringer i sociale sammenhænge og er tilbageholdende eller frygter at træde ind i fællesskaber. Deres økonomi begrænser deres sociale liv, men via børnenes sociale aktiviteter opnår de alligevel kontakt og interaktion med andre. Analysen peger på, at kontanthjælpens vilkår og konsekvenser indirekte påvirker, hvordan enlige forsørgere indgår i sociale relationer i forbindelse med deres børns sociale liv.
This thesis examines how single parents receiving social assistance experience participating in social relationships linked to their children's social lives. Using a hermeneutic (interpretive) approach, the study focuses on how parents understand themselves in social interactions shaped by their financial situation. To address the research question, four qualitative, semi-structured individual interviews were conducted based on an interview guide, supplemented by a literature review. The findings show that participants often feel shame and embarrassment about their situation—an unexpected theme during the research process. They face emotional challenges in social settings and are hesitant or fearful about joining communities. Their finances constrain their social life, yet they still achieve contact and interaction with others through their children's social activities. The analysis suggests that the conditions and consequences of receiving social assistance indirectly influence how single parents engage in social relationships related to their children's social lives.
