Denne afhandling anvender en techno-antropologisk tilgang – en kombination af teknologiske og antropologiske perspektiver – til at nuancere de oprindelige designantagelser bag det spisestøttende hjælpemiddel Bestic. Afhandlingen belyser disse antagelser gennem et antropologisk casestudie af, hvordan Bestic blev implementeret. Ved at undersøge den sociale konstruktion omkring Bestic – det vil sige, hvordan mennesker i fællesskab forstår og tillægger hjælpemidlet betydning – viser studiet, hvilke symbolske betydninger det får i hverdagen, og hvordan disse påvirker brugen.
