Abstract

Titel: Rystet seksualitet- Et kvalitativt interviewstudie om Parkinsons sygdoms påvirkning af seksualiteten, patienternes oplevelse af dansk sundhedssystems håndtering af emnet og ergoterapiens mulige rolle i behandlingen af denne tematik Formål: At undersøge hvordan Parkinsons sygdom (i det følgende forkortet PS) påvirker seksualiteten. Det belyses fra patientperspektivet i hvilken grad, det danske sundhedsvæsen inkluderer seksualiteten som et relevant tema i behandlingen af personer med PS. Herunder diskuteres det, om ergoterapien kan spille en rolle ift. at løfte denne arbejdsopgave. Metode: Kvalitative, semistrukturerede interviews med tre udvalgte personer med PS. Data er indsamlet og analyseret ud fra et fænomenologisk-hermeneutisk perspektiv. Resultater: Deltagerne i studiet oplever at være seksuelt påvirket i individuel grad, og på forskellige vis, i forhold til de motoriske og non-motoriske symptomer fra PS. Samtlige af studiets deltagere oplever at være negativt seksuelt påvirket biologisk, psykologisk og/eller relationelt af PS. Alle deltagerne rapporterer, at de kun i lav grad har modtaget information eller støtte vedr. deres seksuelle liv fra sundhedsvæsenet. Konklusion: Alle studiets deltagere oplever at være ramt af et eller flere bio-psyko-sociale symptomer, som direkte eller indirekte påvirker deres seksualitet negativt. Symptomerne er af både motorisk og non-motorisk karakter, og deltagerne oplever både symptomer forårsaget af PS og af behandlingsrelaterede bivirkninger. Den seksuelle påvirkning rammer for flere af studiets deltageres vedkommende også deres partner/parforhold. Studiets deltagere oplever i meget lav grad, at sundhedspersonalet i sundhedsvæsenet inkluderer seksualitet som et relevant emne i behandlingen af PS, og de er kun blevet tilbudt korte samtaler og medikamentel behandling af sundhedsfagpersoner. Ud fra et aktivitetsperspektiv er et nedsat funktionsniveau ift. seksuelle aktiviteter et relevant ergoterapeutisk arbejdsområde. Ergoterapeuter er både teoretisk og klinisk uddannet til at benytte redskaber og metoder, som kan hjælpe patienter med at løse seksuelle problematikker på de tre første niveauer af PLISSIT-modellen.

Title: Shaken sexuality– A qualitative interview study about Parkinson’s Disease’ effects on the sexuality, the patients experience of the Danish Health system’s handling of the topic and the possible role that occupational therapy could play in the treatment of this theme. Aim: To explore how Parkinson’s Disease (in the following abbreviated PD) effects the sexuality. The study shed light on the patient perspective onto in which degree, the Danish health system includes sexuality as a relevant theme in the treatment of persons with PD. The discussion is concerning the issue whether occupational therapy can play a role in handling this area of work. Method: Qualitative, semi-structured interviews with three chosen persons with PD. Data is analyzed through a phenomenological-hermeneutic analysis. Results: The participants in the study experience to be affected in different individual extents, and ways, regarding the motoric and non-motoric symptoms of PD. All the participants experience to be negatively sexually affected in a biological, psychological and/or relational way as of PD. All the participants report to, in just a small extend, have received information or support from the health system concerning their sexual lives. Conclusion: All the participants in the study are experiencing to be affected from one or more bio-psycho-social symptoms which directly or indirectly affects their sexuality negatively. The symptoms are of both motoric and non-motoric character and the participants experience both symptoms from the PD and as a side effect from the medical treatment. The sexual affection is in more cases extended to their partner/relationship. The participants in the study experience only in a small extend, that the health professionals in the health system are including sexuality as a topic of relevance in the treatment of PD, and they have only been offered short conversations as well as strictly medical treatment from the health personnel. Seen from a perspective of activity, a reduced level of function regarding sexual activities concerns the working area of occupational therapists. Occupational therapists have received theoretical as well as clinical experience in the usage of tools and methods which can help patients to resolve sexual problems in the three first levels of the PLISSIT model.
