This project has studied the classical conceptions of freedom based on John Locke and Thomas Hobbes as well as three more modern concepts, negative, positive and republican freedom. These various concepts helped us shape our understanding of the ways discourses of freedom can be constituted in relation to video surveillance.
In our analysis of how the surveillance debate revealed various discourses of freedom we showed that political parties did not always match with their traditional ideologies and found new allies across the political spectrum. To further nuance the field we included an analysis of the NGO Justitia.
