- Lene Trelle Christiansen
10. term, Master in Environmental Management (Master Programme)
This Master’s Thesis deals with Environmental Impact Assessment for animal husbandry and the
reform of the Danish municipalities that took place on 1st of January 2007. As a result of the reform
the Danish counties was discontinued and the number of municipalities was reduced from 278
to 98. In connection with the reform of the Danish municipalities a new law for animal husbandry
was introduced named Lov for miljøvurdering mv. af husdyrbrug. With the new law the responsibility
for Environmetal Impact Assessment were moved from the counties to the new municipalities.
The purpose of the Master’s Thesis is to determine the necessary competences in the Danish
municipalities to be able to carry out Environmental Impact Assessments. Furthermore, the purpose
is to determine whether or not these competences are present in the Danish municipalities and the
options for the municipalities to develop the competences. The result of the Master’s Thesis is that
the required competences in many municipalities are present but that there are other obstacles to
the implementation of the new law on animal husbandry.
