The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and gain an understanding of the health care professionals' experiences of working in organizations that undergo structural change and how they handle these changes. To illustrate the structural changes, the Neoliberal and the New Public Management discourse are described and analysed to see what contributes to structural change. In addition, the thesis also highlights the impact that structural changes can have on patients.
The thesis is designed through the use of qualitative interviews. These interviews form the basis of the investigation.
The findings of the study show that healthcare professionals develop strategies for coping with the work pressure they are exposed to through structural change. The study shows that these coping strategies can have consequences for the patients, namely that inequalities may occur between patients.
