The game development business today is faced with rising consumer expectations, increasing complexity and huge budgets which create a need for developing the right game to the right market at the right time. This master thesis looks at how game development companies have adopted the Scrum development methodology to avoid some of the management problems that are present in the game industry today.
First Scrum is presented to show how the method works followed by a presentation of some game studios that are currently using the Scrum method. It is shown how these companies have handled the switch to Scrum by introducing it one place at a time in the organisation before fully utilizing the method and furthermore what changes and additions they have made to Scrum to make it fit their production needs. Following this is a discussion that opens up some of issues that surround Scrum in game development regarding Scrum as an optimal choice and the long term effect of Scrum.
