4. term, History, Master (Master Programme)
The Reformation is a very significant event in the history of Denmark and therefore it is interesting to look at its more specific background. The thesis is a study of the different circumstances in the Danish society which played a role in relation to the fall of the Catholic Church and Catholicism in 1536. In this regard it is especially the political, socio-economical and cultural or more spiritual situation in Denmark in the years leading up to the break in 1536 that is examined more closely. Together they are able to explain why the Catholic Church, which had held a very strong position in most of Scandinavia throughout the Middle Ages, in just 10 to 12 years seem to loose almost all its power and influence in Denmark. Furthermore the thesis also takes a closer look at the different views of the various historical and theological researchers.
