Nowadays sensor-less motor control is a hot topic for re-
searchears due to its numerous advantages. The focus of
this project is the sensor-less control of a surface mounted
PMSM (SMPMSM) for low speed in high dynamic ap-
plications. First the literature is searched for a suitable
sensor-less control strategy and then the selected strategy
is implemented and tested in simulations. The sensor-less
control strategy is then validated in the laboratory. For
all the simulation Matlab=Simulink and Plecs is used.
For the laboratory work a dSpace setup is used. Even if
the topic of the project is sensor-less control, simulations
and laboratory work is carried out for both sensored and
sensor-less control of the SMPMSM in order to compare
the results. Moreover the control of the loading machine
is realized in order to be able to test the SMPMSM con-
trol under loading conditions. The performance of the
selected sensor-less control strategy is tested and com-
pared with the sensored control in ve dierent study
cases. Promising results are obtained in the laboratory
at zero and low speeds. The rotor position estimation er-
ror becomes larger as the load torque and speed increases.
Good results were obtained at speeds up to 200rpm.
