The field of hematology is ever-changing. During the last decades, many new treatments have been used against multiple myeloma. However, there is a lack in understanding about how frail and comorbid patients are being treated. Therefore, this retrospective cohort, based on electronic health records from the North Denmark region, aimed to investigate patient characteristics and treatment effects among patients living with multiple myeloma. We report that patients who are aged > 70 or have an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Score ≥ 2 have shorter Overall Survival after diagnosis. We found a correlation between Charlson Comorbidity Index and lower Overall Survival in the univariate analysis; however, no correlation was found in the multivariate analysis. BMI was not a significant predictor for Overall Survival in the univariate analysis but was significant in the multivariate analysis. Furthermore, gender was not a significant predictor of Overall Survival. High dose melphalan therapy with autologous stem cell transplantation was the most used treatment. The treatment also gave some of the best treatment outcomes based on Time to Next Treatment and Progression-Free Survival. We conclude that Age and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Score are easy to collect in a clinical setting and are good predictors for Overall survival and, therefore, might be good predictors for outcomes in frail patients.
