This architectural report has been developed as a thesis on Aalborg University in the period from 3th of February to the 3th of June. The project deal with the elaboration of a day-care institution, placed in the northeast of Silkeborg. The project builds on a competition project from Silkeborg Kommune from 2003 and puts its emphasis on developing some good and creative settings to the children. The main theme in the project is indoor climate and how this can be solved as an integrated part of the building design. Furthermore is the energy consumption worked in, to achieve as low energy consumption as possible, without compromising on the architecture and the indoor climate. The result is a living building who works with dividing up the building into smaller parts, so that the children easily can navigate around and find their own section. Each section is displaced in relation to each other so that small niches appear; these will give the children small places to play and creates an exciting façade and room experience. The roof is the mark of the building and ties it all together. It is shaped as a large wing and gives the illusion of the protecting wing over the children. The building is placed almost in the middle of the site so that it divides the site into two. The northern part is treated as a normal play area, while the southern part is treated as a nature play area. The curved building creates together with the trees to the south a protected outdoor area, where the smallest children can play.
