This report deals with a numerical investigation of gas-solid flow. Simulations are based on a CFD modeling of the flow of raw meal particles in the calciner in FLUENT environment. Results from the simulations were compared with experiments carried out for a model of the calciner placed in FLSmidth R&D Centre Dania. Therefore, the numerical model was build in a way ensuring geometrical similitude with kinematically similar boundary conditions to the calciner used in the experiments. A description of building the model involves several aspects e.g. a mesh generation and grid-independence study, an analysis of a sufficient number of particles tracked in the simulations and relevant calculations required for determination of boundary conditions. Two cases were considered in present work: the flow with strong and weak swirling effect. Thereby, the influence of revolving flow on a distribution pattern of raw meal particles was investigated. Finally, the results from the simulations were compared and analyzed with the experimental data.
