4. term, Architecture, Master (Master Programme)
The purpose of this thesis is to design a new floor on three buildings located in Aalborg, with apartments for elderly people. In correlation to the new floor, an energy renovation of the existing buildings, build in the 1960s, will take place.
The project treats the challenge of designing a building extension that interplays with the existing building, both aesthetically and from a sustainable point of view.
Furthermore the project presents an idea for a new building, on a free building site, located next to the existing buildings.
The solutions presented in this project can form the basis of energy renovation of similar projects in Danish buildings, with focus on block of flats from the 1960s. The challenge is to perform the necessary changes to lower the energy use, without compromising on the aesthetics.
The use of daylight is a focal point in this project. This result in a comparison of software for calculating daylight factors, which is to be found in the appendix.
