This design based research project aims to change the distance education program at VUC-Storstrøm to
make it more collaborative and varied, and to examine how such changes can be made in an organization
like VUC-Storstrøm.
During 3 workshops a group of distance education teachers work to produce a new way of teaching based
on the Flipped Classroom method. Inspired by social constructivism, Flipped Classroom is a powerful tool to
create change in the roles of both students and teachers, and the result is an introductory course to be
used in the distance education program.
Classical social constructivism is combined with modern activity theory to create a new concept of distance
education which focuses more on distance learning and less on distance education.
The project concludes, that design based research can be used to create change in an organization like
VUC-Storstrøm, but the lack of leadership and continuity in the faculty of distance education makes it
uncertain if the changes can be implemented.
