The objective of this work is to develop a 3D space planning application with integrated layout and functionality. The thesis sheds light on a gray area in research on the construction industry's lack of customer involvement, and how digitalization can improve customer collaboration, which is not only across the operators. With a participatory mind-set this thesis will support an equal dialogue between customer and construction company.
The planning process is also characterized by a high degree of creativity, based on context-based knowledge and minor non-verbal exchanges. With a participatory design mind-set, all stakeholders are involved to achieve a mutual understanding of the context. The goal of research is to demonstrate how digital design can facilitate equal collaboration with customers and professionals in the construction industry and motivate collaboration. The design has been developed involving the end-user with inspiration from creative games, CAD-software, 3D drawing programs. The Sims and Minecraft presents itself as the perfect tool to develop creativity, nurture collaboration and increase motivation. The results of the research had shown potential contribution to collaboration created a common language between customer and professionals. The thesis concept should be seen as a complement to current work practices or replace certain customer meetings, all depending on the purpose. This raises an ambition to use knowledge in a new and different way. However, there are some aspects of the research we can improve in the future surveys.
