Implementation of Paul-Mohr-Coulomb in the finite element method

This project deals with the implementation of a new geotechnical material model called Paul-
Mohr-Coulomb in a finite element code. The material model is a general linear criterion that
includes all three principal stresses and which, in principal stress space, can either be defined as
being 6-sided, like its close relative Mohr-Coulomb, or as a 12-sided yield surface that can take
into account more general stress states in the soil. The project is largely about how linear criteria
are generally built up and about how they are implemented properly as well as the challenges that
may arise in such an implementation. Further, the material model is assessed from a geotechnical
point of view to show its properties. There will also be a comparison with Mohr-Coulomb, as they
are so closely related, to assess the model’s properties in relation to an already established material
