The foundation of this thesis has been a sense of curiosity about how homeless people
experience the pressures and stresses of modern society, and if it is possible to find signs of
these demands in their own stories about growing up, their family etc., that has made it hard
for them to be a part of society.
With a basis in four qualitative interviews, we’ve used a Critical Theoretical analysis to reveal the
visible and invisible stresses and pressures of society that lead to suffering and unease. Working
from a basis in Critical Theory we account for how the theorists Honneth, Taylor, Bauman, Sennett
and Rosa deal with the idea of modern society and the social pathologies – the social suffering – it
causes.
