Today we live in a digitized society where digitization is equated with efficiency. This has led to many industries experiencing increased digitization. The construction industry is no exception; since 2007, the public sector construction has undergone a requirement for the use of increased digitization.

This has resulted in the implementation of various forms of object-based 3D modelling technologies in several architectural firms.

The intention of this project is to examine the direct and indirect impacts from digitalization on the role of the architect. The empirical study is comprised of interviews, observations and relevant literature. The selected theory is semiotics and Actor-Network theory. The study is conducted as a single case study focusing on the architect's identity. The case study is themed by digital technology impacts on architectural practice and workflow.

The analysis illustrates the architect's role in a historical perspective, the architect's identity and the use of digital technologies. Subsequently all material is analyzed in two themes: ‘Efficiency and creativity' and 'architect as the coordinator or arbitrary'; this clarifies how the architect influenced by digitalization.
