The purpose of this study is to investigate the organizational and economic influence on the
quality of early preventive initiatives for vulnerable adults with a mental illness as well as how
the quality of the initiatives is perceived by the vulnerable adults. Our interest in the subject
originates from the experience of working with this target group during our internship.
The study is based on qualitative interviews from a citizen perspective and a professional perspective.
The problem statement originates from the fact that the economy in the area of disability
is under pressure. It is therefore unavoidable that it affects the opportunities for the professionals
to act in certain situations. Based on this we find it relevant to investigate how the
organizational and economic influence affects the quality of early preventive initiatives. Our
research shows that an early preventive initiative can be important in organizing the measure in
a long-term perspective. Furthermore, we know that there is limited knowledge on the subject
which validates the relevance of this investigation.
There is currently a political focus on early preventive initiatives in regard to citizens with
mental disabilities. The process of politicization is fundamental in relation to determining if an
undesirable life situation should be seen as a social issue that should be resolved by the law.
The result of this investigation shows that the organizational and economic influence affects
the quality of early preventive initiatives and that the economic pressure may cause the target
group to be adjusted. Finally, this investigation shows that the citizens experience the early
preventive initiatives as being inclusive and appreciative, which the citizens perceive as high
quality.
