In this project I sought to answer the question of how to create facial motion capture for a character, using cheap equipment, in such a way that emotion could be read from his facial expressions.
I used a webcam to record an actors facial expressions while he talked about his cat, which he loves dearly. I performed three tests, one expert test, one quantitative and two qualitative, one of which I deemed invalid because of improper execution.
The result is that the same emotion as in the original video could indeed be seen through the character’s facial expressions, and a product like this could benefit animation companies if further developed.
