This projects attempts to answer how children are affected by growing up in a family, where daily life is influenced by alcoholism. Furthermore which comprehension horizon the social worker uses in her work areas with this target group.
Studies show that the numbers of children in alcoholic related families are far higher than the official numbers. The red figures are very strikingly and it seems that these children are not visible in society. Studies have furthermore shown that this group of children have an elevated risk of developing behavioural, social and emotional difficulties.
Research has shown that 50% of the children are affected in such a way that it will pursue them into their adult life. Therefore we have speculated on why the support options for these children are so limited.
It is interesting for us to examine how the children are affected as well as way the social worker understands these children, their problems and the problem in total in her every day work.
Our research shows, that there apparently is no clear description how children are affected by growing up in families where daily life is influenced by alcoholism. At the same time we can conclude that regardless of the differences, children are affected, behavioural, as well as social and emotional by growing up in a family, where daily life is influenced by alcoholism.
At the same time, our analysis show that comprehension horizon the social workers uses, matches the existing knowledge in the area.
In addition, our analysis also shows, that the social workers understanding of the working area, is that it is difficult to make a connected effort, in relation to the group. And that the effort is difficult also regarding the dilemma between support and authority.
At the same time our analysis shows that this group of children are violated in all 3 spheres of recognition. Partly because of their upbringing, but also because of the lacking focus, as well as a lacking in the broaching of the subject by society.
