The theme for this project is “user centered design” with focus on the design of an illumination tool for auto mechanics. The design process is to be understood as an integrated design effort, which brings the technical, user specific and esthetical aspects, together. The product has to fulfill the needs and demands that a mechanic has for lighting during his daily work. By using LED, the goal is to re-invent the existing illumination tools and update the mechanic’s equipment with the newest technology. Through the design process, the technical solution for this product will have a significant impact on the product’s characteristics. With these parameters as a point of reference, the project will strive towards developing a possible solution for an illumination tool, with the primary goal/objective of allowing the auto mechanic to have both hands available for his work, and still, at the same time, have a perfectly illuminated work area. The secondary objective is to re-think the illumination tool by utilising the new technologies that are being developed, which could improve the working conditions for the auto mechanic.
