This project deals with the development of a furniture for the psychiatric departments, made by three students from Industrial Design on Aalborg University. The product is aimed at the psychiatry with focus on safety, atmosphere and sensory stimulation and is primarily intended for the patients in closed sections. Throughout the project, there have been several interviews and meetings with both staff and patients in Aalborg and Randers psychiatric departments who have formed guidelines for the product. This has been in conjunction between theoretical material and self-made tests.
The result is an armchair, focusing on calming the patient to prevent aggressive behavior, using stimulus to relieve mind and body. This makes the patient independent, when no longer needs to ask for permission for loans of sensory stimulating equpiment.
