The project is based on the Danish Cancer Society’s wish to build a cancer caring center at Frederik Obels Vej in Aalborg. The building is designed to meet future needs and wishes of people affected with cancer, and also be an attractive workplace for employees and volunteers. The project focuses on daylight, relation to nature and a homely atmosphere, and it has also been important to ensure a good indoor climate and low energy consumption. The result is a building that indicates openness and accessibility and at the same times invites to confidentiality and privacy. The building is designed to accommodate many different activities and is also characterized by a relaxed, warm atmosphere, where the users can feel at home. The building achieves the Danish low energy class 1 classification and by using solar cells the building is even producing more energy than it consumes.
