An absorption chiller utilizing waste heat from an indirect methanol fuel cell was developed. It was found that a single-effect water/lithium bromide chiller was most suitable for the purpose. The most inexpensive chiller design was found by optimizing the chiller configuration using a black-box model in EES. The system has an estimated performance of 0.86. The physical design of the components was found by minimizing the material cost using individual component models. An air-cooled chiller concept was developed and it was deemed possible to fabricate the chiller for less than the maximum capital expense of 3700 €.
