The purpose of this study was to investigate how elite TeamGym (TG) talents do gender and challenge gendered boundaries within TG’s physical culture during the furth feminist wave for the possibility of transforming gendered boundaries and create an inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ people. Methods used in this multiple case study were observations of three senior TG teams: men, women and one mix team consisting of both men and women followed by semi structured interviews with two gymnasts from each team. The thematic analysis found themes which showed that male and female gymnasts do challenge gendered boundaries in TG, although women gymnasts seem to challenge gendered boundaries more than male gymnasts, which contributes to expanding their ways of doing gender in TG. Concurrently themes also show that there still exists gendered expectations from male and female gymnasts from previous traditions and gender discourses in gymnastics and physiology. Both male and female gymnasts showed positivity towards including LGBTQIA+ people in TG, yet showed skepticism of including transgendered women which might be based on society’s constructed perception that transgendered women have physiological benefits which could outperform cisgendered women. Further investigation in TG and LGBTQIA+ people is necessary to understand how gender is constructed in order to normalize LGBTQIA+ people's participation in elite sports by expanding boundaries for doing gender.
