This thesis concerns the design of a location-based service supporting the three mobility types: Wandering, travelling and visiting, and transitions between them. The use case of hitchhiking is investigated in relation to characterizations of the three mobility types and transitions between these. A prototype called iHitch is designed and implemented to support elements of the use case of hitchhiking extended by location-awareness by GPS positioning and Google Maps services. The prototype is evaluated with the purpose of understand users’ interaction and perception in regards to the mobility types and transitions. We conclude that the visiting and travelling parts of the design support spatio-temporal information and provides a useable overview whereas the wandering part does not. We have found measures to support the transitions between mobility types like static and active elements utilizing redundant information and causal relationships.
