This paper is regarding an investigation on whether clues can improve the recall of a person’s semantic knowledge. An earlier empirical investigation of a general knowledge test with clues has shown that there was a significant improvement for the test group. The purpose of the clues is to compensate for the lack of social context which is considered to be a more natural context in which to recall knowledge. The test results are to be found in the activation of both the semantic system and the phonological system. But in general it is about how the composition of two different memory tests can increase the accessibility to knowledge and in that way improves the recall. Regarding testing it is essential to draw the attention to the limitations of the test especially when it is used for evaluation purposes for instance in the educational establishment.
