An increasing amount of people in the Danish society are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (sundhed.dk; diabetes.dk). At the same time, studies suggest a relationship between bad well-being and type 2 diabetes (Johnson et. al., 2016). In this light, it is in the interest of the both the Danish soci-ety and the diabetics to investigate how diabetics and health-care professionals view health and well-being in order to find appropriate communications solutions, which can contribute to the health and well-being of diabetics.

In this thesis, we explore the views or perceptions health and well-being among type 2 diabetics and health-care professionals through semi-structured interviews and a focusgroupinterview, respec-tively. By using a qualitative content analysis, we seek to identify different of health and well-being among both diabetics and health-care professionals and compare them not only to their own group, but also to each other. We take a Bourdieu inspired approach, because we consider the perceptions of the participants to be more than substantialistic in nature. Rather their perceptions should be seen as a product of a system of relations.

Our results are a wide array of perceptions on health among both diabetics and health-care profes-sionals ranging from medical-biological health-perception, which refers to the perception of health in medical terms often expressed through numbers all the way to relative health perception, which refers to the perception of health being an individual phenomenon, that should be treated accordingly in terms of health-care assistance. Both the diabetics and the health-care professionals also display a wide array of perceptions of well-being ranging from well-being in community to well-being in ease and feeling good about oneself.

Based on our findings we have created a set of communication proposals for health-care professionals in their work with diabetics to increase health and well-being. Each of which consists of a description the problem, which aims to equip the health-care professional with insights. A communications solu-tion, which aims to equip the health-care professional with insight and inspiration as to what can be done in order to resolve the problem. Finally, we have presented elements, which can be used in the communications solutions or at the very least serve as inspiration or example, if the health-care pro-fessionals deem other methods more appropriate.
