In current wireless communication systems (5G), large antenna arrays (mMIMO) are used to achieve beam- forming and spacial multiplexing. Hence, it is expected that beyond 5G there will be systems with hundreds or thousands of antennas. However, as the number of antennas increase, the cost and energy consumption of the system also does. "Codebook beam- forming" is a common solution bea- cause it can be implemented using only analog circuitry. On the other hand, when using arrays of extra-large size it becomes possible to to focus the energy of a beam on a finite distance. In this project, we design a codebook suitable for an extra-large scale array. The codebook is designed tackling the problem of the consumption and the distance beamforming effect: it can be implemented analogically and al- lows finite-depth beamforming. Then, we look over the theory applied in mMIMO systems, define a model, val- idate it and analyse the performance of the codebook for a worse case sce- nario. Results show that the proposed codebook can serve users that are in the same angular direction. Different options to improve its performance are discussed.
