In this master thesis we have examined the state-of-the-art of the tabletop research field. The study is two fold: A literature review and a comparative study of single- and multi-factor authentication on a tabletop technology.
In the first study we review the literature using a grounded theory approach. The data originates from leading conferences within the research field of tabletop, CHI, Tabletops and ITS. From the data a total of 8 distinct categories emerged, that characterize the research field.
In the second study we used the foundation of the literature review and contribute with a comparative study on single- and multi-factor authentication mechanisms on a tabletop. The study compares 6 conditions;3 single-factor authentication and 3 multi-factor authentication. The results revealed that the users prefer to use a combination of possession and knowledge factors. The results also indicate that the combination of a TUI and a PIN was significantly better compared to the other conditions.
Finally we discuss the research methods used throughout the studies and presents limitations based on the methods used.
