Parametrisk Analyse af en falling film pillow plate fordamper

The purpose of this project was to create a para-metric model, which can analyse the heat trans-fer for a flooded falling film pillow plate evapo-rator. The first step of modelling the heat trans-fer was to determine the thermal resistance.This was done by modelling the three typesof heat transfer and accounting for whetherdry out happens during the evaporation pro-cess and how the boiling heat transfer changesas a function of the quality of the refriger-ant. This was then implemented using the cellmethod to model the heat exchanger. To val-idate the model it was compared to data pro-vided by ATHCO, a company that produces pil-low plates. Here it showed to be able to predictthe overall heat transfer coefficient with an er-ror margin of 14% mostly under predicting theheat transfer. This is an acceptable accuracy, sothere was made a parametric analysis. Here theresults showed that the best method for improv-ing the heat transfer is to either increase the areaby increasing the height, increase the tempera-ture difference by increasing the inlet tempera-ture or flow rate of the falling film or increasethe flow rates of either the refrigerant or thefalling film. Especially increasing the refriger-ant flow rate is beneficial as this reduces the riskof dry out happening.
