This master thesis takes point of departure in an international architectural competition held by Copenhagen City and Port for the future development of the Nordhavnen harbour area in Copenhagen. The master thesis makes a suggestion upon how the Nordhavn area can develop into a new sustainable city district at the size of 300 ha, with 40.000 new workplaces and dwellings for 40.000 new inhabitants.
The result of the master is four products:
• A spatial concept
• A structure plan for the whole of Nordhavnen
• A development strategy
• A development plan of Inner Nordhavn
The spatial concept is structured around two units: Neighbourhoods & corridors. These two concepts are structuring the whole design of the report.
The structure plan generates the guidelines for the development strategy and the development plan bye a bunch of analyses and statements.
The development strategy is structured around the structure plan, and makes a suggestion upon how to structure the progression of the urban development process during the next 50 years. Further the development strategy introduces an American planning method called Form-Based Coding, Form-Based Coding work as an inspiration source for the production of the development plan.
The development plan generates some general guidelines for the future development of Inner Nordhavn. This is done by a zoning plan and some general standards for thoroughfares, buildings, facades and public spaces.
