Model-Based Schedulability Analysis of Real-Time Systems

This report describes the implementation of SARTS, a model-based schedulability analysis tool for hard real-time systems. SARTS translates hard real-time systems, implemented in Java, to an abstract time preserving model for the modeling tool UPPAAL. The system being analyzed must be implemented in SCJ2, a safety critical profile for Java developed in this project, based on SCJ. The target hardware is the time predictable Java processor JOP, developed specifically for hard real-time systems. Several experiments have been conducted to illustrate the accuracy of SARTS compared to existing tools and techniques. It is shown that a model-based approach can result in a more accurate analysis, than possible with traditional approaches. SARTS has successfully been used to verify the schedulability of a real-time sorting machine consisting of two periodic and two sporadic tasks. Future improvements and research directions for SARTS are presented. This document, source code, and other relevant material can be found on the enclosed CD.
