This Master’s thesis investigates how dark
design and social exclusion affects mobility patterns of the homeless population
of Aalborg as well as what home means
when you are homeless. With the nation’s
highest percentage of rough sleepers, Aalborg presents an interesting case. By interviewing people experiencing homelessness and experts in the feld in addition
to performing observations, the mobility
patterns of the homeless have been identifed. The theoretical framework covers the
mobilities and materialities of social exclusion and dark design as well as the notion of home. Although Aalborg has very
few artefacts of dark design we have found
that removal of benches has altered the
mobility patterns of the socially vulnerable, affecting where they stay during the
day. Furthermore, the meaning of home
was highly subjective, relating to both materialities and emotional relations.
