The project is based on an architectural competition for a cultural centre in Faxe and treats the relationship between the city of Faxe and Faxe Limestone Quarry through the creation of the cultural centre on the edge of the quarry. The city of Faxe and Faxe Limestone Quarry is situated side by side, but have for many years placed their backsides against each other. The municipality of Faxe wants to renew and strengthen the relationship between city and quarry through an idea of a “Cultural street” going from the city centre to the quarry. The main focus point on the street is a cultural centre containing museum, café and cinema. In the creation of the cultural centre focus has been put on creating a large physical and visual connection between city and quarry. The building shape signalizes the connection by clearly framing the views to the quarry. Meanwhile the wedge-shaped bridge element cuts a path through the context and gives a variety of different experiences before it leads the visitors to the bottom of the quarry.
