A desire to test and implement audio-visual theories to rich media led to an investigation of crossmodal interaction spanning over five experiments testing different elements of audio-visual interaction.
Each experiment featured the production of high quality video, implementing aspects for testing.
These experiments were:
Experiment 1: Audio-visual perception of Distance. Experiment 2: Manipulating perception of direction and trajectory.
Experiment 3: The motion bounce illusion in rich media.
Experiment 4: Expectation following obscured audio-visual event.
Experiment 5: Combining knowledge and elements from previous experiments.
The investigation shows that it is possible to take isolated and simple audio-visual theories into practical application as video, where the results show that these theories were often still in effect despite the complex and noisy nature of the rich video products.
Overall, the investigation successfully implements and tests crossmodal interaction in video, carrying audiovisual theories into new application, providing new results from experiments done with high visual- and auditory quality following new interpretations.
