The question of this thesis is whether, in the light of how recent movements within environmental thinking that set forth ideas about politics of unsustainability, the end of ecology and similar constructionist tendencies, resilience could be understood as a different way of addressing the environmental issues, one that is sensitive towards this critique. By examining different prevailing views on resilience, including both critics and supporters, this thesis will argue that although they offer certain insights into resilience thinking, they do succumb to shortcoming if resilience is to be able to address the issues in a satisfactory manner. These insights and shortcomings are deployed as criteria for an alternate reading of resilience, as the thesis will seth forth a new theoretical framework, which could address both the issues relating to the deficit in sustainability thinking and the issues pointed out in the critique of the concept. Drawing on the theoretical body of radical hermeneutics, this thesis will as result of this seek to introduce and put forth the idea of a hermeneutics of resilience, especially with focus on how to interpret resilience in a post-metaphysical understanding.
