Currently, an interdisciplinary collaboration between different departments of the university of Aalborg, called Lead-Eng project, works on developing an electric vehicle for a single passenger. The objective of this project is to design and improve this electric vehicle, divided in submodules, where each submodule can be dismounted and upgraded separately from the overall vehicle. Today, the main goal of the Lead-Eng project is to reduce the energy consumption of the vehicle. The focus is then brought on the chassis, a tubular steel frame structure which can be lighten by using composite materials. In this project, the existing vehicle is assessed with a rigid body dynamic analysis, made on Ansys™, to extract the forces acting on the chassis. Then, a new design of the chassis is created on SolidWorks™, and the composite material properties and structure are chosen. Consequently, the composite material monocoque chassis’ behavior is studied and a finite element analysis is performed on Ansys™. Finally, the manufacturing process of the composite monocoque chassis, is prepared.
