Fluid mixing is without any doubt the most common operation encountered in the industries using chemical process. Therefore it is really important to understand the flow field during the entire process in order to design a mixer in the best way. Computational methods have been used to investigate the flow field in a Double-Rushton stirred tank. To this end, after the modelling of the mixer with the software Gambit, several simulations have been performed and some parameters have been approached, all with the software Fluent. To validate our modelling, the results are compared to a recent study realized in the same mixer but with an approach to modelling more complex than ours. Then, differences and similarities between our obtained results and the theory are analyzed and criticized. Our results will judge the relevance or not of our modelling. Before that, a series of theoretical review are given, among others about agitated vessels generalities, about the turbulence model (RANS) and the modelling approach chosen (source terms) and about the Computational Fluid Dynamic. It emerges from the study that, despite some similarities between the literature and our simulations, it is difficult to obtain similar results with different modelling approaches.
