Abstract
Introduction: This thesis examines the meaning and use of presence and mindfulness in the psychotherapeutic practice of three psychologists, and reflects on whether we can combine methods from equine assisted psychotherapy and mindfulness.

Method: Qualitative interviews with three psychologists, one primarily engaged in horse assisted therapy, one with mindfulness and meditation and the last with a combination of equine assisted therapy and mindfulness. The analytical method Template Analysis is used.

Conclusions: The thesis conclude, that despite differences in methods between the three psychologists, they all seem to agree, that presence is a fundamental part of psychotherapy, that it can occur spontaneously and through intentional training using mindfulness techniques and that it seems to strengthen contact on both a intrapersonal and an interpersonal level. Mindfulness appears to the participants as both a technique you can use, and a state of consciousness, you can experience. All three participants expressed that the bodily and sensory experience plays a major role in mindfulness. Intentionality is also seen as significant for some of the participants. In reflection on the possibility of combing mindfulness and horse assisted psychotherapy, the participants recommend a focus on physical oriented methods. It seems, a combination of the two methods could be directed towards client groups, who for various reasons have difficulty engaging in traditional talk therapy.
