This master thesis originates in a conversation with Neil Gyte from the engineering company WS Atkins & Partners Overseas, Dubai and concerns automatic updating of Building Information Models (BIM) by the means of laser scanning and RFID tags. In the project research into laser scanning and RFID tags is done, and examples of how they can be made useful to the purpose are given. The thesis mainly focuses on the surveying part of the updating process. An experiment is made to examine if the theories and methods described through the project, can be used to solve the thesis statement. In the project a method for using laser scanning and RFID tags for the control measurements of a building, by comparing the data from a building information model with the observations made with the laser scanner and RFID tags.
