Abstract

This thesis examines the sociotechnical aspects of introducing the Electronic Health Record system Cura Social in disability services in Hjørring and Aalborg municipalities. Sociotechnical here means the interplay between people, workflows, and technology. Electronic health record systems change frequently, and large IT implementations are known to be difficult to make work in practice. The study looks at the rollout from the perspective of end users—the employees who use the system in daily work. To do this, it applies a digital method called Participatory Online Video Assessment (POVA), which makes it possible to involve users remotely despite geographical barriers. POVA combines participatory tools and techniques with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and desktop sharing, and was a key way to gather users’ experiences and opinions about Cura. Finally, the thesis explores how Cura has affected work practices and why the system is initially experienced negatively, while also identifying reasons to expect improvements over time.
