Abstract

This thesis investigates some complications derived from a CSR theory created by Andreas Scherer and Guido Palazzo called Hab2, with the purpose to improve the theory by synthesizing it with aspects from Alfred North Whitehead’s process philosophy. A key part in the investigation of Hab2 is the discussion of the theory’s dependence of the ability of the involved actors to posses the so called norms of behavior. These norms of behavior make Hab2 less able to include a diverse set of actors. This is considered as a weakness when Hab2 is supposed to function in developing countries. The norms of behavior are connected to the fixed order which lies immanent in the Hab2 theory. Process philosophy contributes by giving tools that is able to overcome the idea of a fixed order. From a process view order as a process only exists by being constantly maintained by its actors. By changing the actors’ understanding and approach to the order it is believed that it is possible to create an open and agile order, which will avoid the norms of behavior because they are connected to the fixed order. The thesis ends with an interview with former Novo Nordisk president Mads Øvlisen who formulates his opinion on the process philosophical approach to Hab2.
