Resumé
Specialet undersøger, hvordan den moralske fordømmelse af prostitution kan forstås i en dansk samfundskontekst præget af skarpe debatter, især om kvindelige prostituerede og kriminalisering af købere. Med udgangspunkt i en socialkonstruktionistisk, teoretisk analyse belyses to dominerende diskurser om prostitution: den funktionalistiske og den patriarkatfeministiske. Analysen trækker på teoretisk litteratur og kvalitative, socialkonstruktionistiske studier samt inddrager diskurser om heteroseksuel sex og parrelationer for at afdække, hvordan normer for intimitet, gensidighed og monogami former moralforståelser. Undersøgelsen argumenterer for, at en socialkonstruktionistisk tilgang er meningsfuld til at synliggøre, hvordan den funktionalistiske diskurs kan føre til, at købere fralægger sig ansvar, samtidig med at prostituerede dømmes og kvinders egenskaber undertrykkes. Den patriarkatfeministiske diskurs analyseres i forhold til kvindeundertrykkelse, heteroseksuelle relationer og psykologiens betydning, og det fremhæves, at kombinationen af psykologi og patriarkatfeminisme har været central for at positionere kvindelige prostituerede som ofre. Fordømmelsen af prostitution kobles til kønsligestilling og magtpositioner, og det vises, at følelsesladet politisk retorik trækker på hverdagstemaer og dermed berører et bredere publikum end de direkte involverede.
This thesis explores how the moral condemnation of prostitution can be understood within a Danish context marked by polarized debates, particularly concerning female prostitution and buyer criminalization. Using a social constructionist, theory-driven analysis, it examines two dominant discourses on prostitution: the functionalist and the patriarchal feminist. The study draws on theoretical literature and qualitative, social constructionist research, and incorporates discourses on heterosexual sex and intimate relationships to illuminate how norms of reciprocity, intimacy, and monogamy shape moral judgments. It argues that a social constructionist lens is a meaningful way to reveal how the functionalist discourse can enable buyers to disclaim responsibility while positioning prostitutes for societal judgment and reinforcing the oppression of women’s attributes. The analysis of the patriarchal feminist discourse focuses on women’s oppression, heterosexual relations, and the role of psychology, highlighting how psychology in conjunction with patriarchal feminism has been pivotal in framing female prostitutes as victims. The condemnation of prostitution is linked to gender equality and power relations, and the thesis shows how emotive political rhetoric taps everyday themes, mobilizing audiences beyond those directly engaged in the debate.
